Why Cameron Duddy is on this page

Cameron Thomas Duddy (born 6 December 1985) is an American music video director and country bassist whose directing reel has accumulated more than nine billion views, and who in 2016 co-founded the country trio Midland. He is one of the few people working at full creative volume on both sides of the music video camera — the director of “Uptown Funk” by day and a Big Machine Records recording artist by night.

Duddy directed Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s Uptown Funk (2014), one of the most-viewed videos in YouTube history, and the Bruno Mars singles Locked Out of Heaven (2012, MTV VMA Best Direction), 24K Magic (2017, BET award and three VMA nominations) and Versace on the Floor (2017). He also directed Fifth Harmony’s Worth It (over two billion YouTube views), Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea’s Pretty Girls, OneRepublic videos, and John Mayer’s Last Train Home, which won the 2021 MTV VMA for Best Rock Video. With Midland — alongside Mark Wystrach and Jess Carson, formed in Dripping Springs, Texas in 2016 — he plays bass and provides backing vocals; the group’s debut On the Rocks (2017) went gold, produced the triple-platinum single Drinkin’ Problem and the platinum Burn Out, and earned the trio two Grammy nominations and the ACM Best New Group award. Their fourth LP, The Last Resort: Greetings From (2022), preceded sold-out tours in Australia, Europe and the United States. In June 2025 he was announced as director of his feature debut, the rodeo film Cowboy, with Ben Foster and Rudy Pankow attached.

The Duddy variant of the wider O’Dubhda surname concentrates strongly in Donegal, Derry and north Tyrone, though Cameron Duddy’s specific Irish line is not confirmed in any public source we have located, and we mark it honestly here rather than invent. He belongs to a Hollywood-adjacent Duddy family — his father is the cinematographer Christopher Duddy (camera operator on Titanic, Thirteen Days, Terminator 2 and many others), and Cameron’s stepmother is the actress Joely Fisher, with the screen actress Connie Stevens his step-grandmother. He sits within this directory under both Musicians and Actors, Comedians & Film — a real cross-listing rather than a courtesy, given the dual career.

Duddy is married to the photographer Harper Smith; they have a son and a daughter. If a relative reading this can place the Duddy line further back, please get in touch.
