Why Max O’Dowd is on this page
Maxwell Patrick O’Dowd is a New Zealand-born Dutch international cricketer, born 4 March 1994 in Auckland. A right-handed opening batsman, he made his international debut for the Netherlands national cricket team in June 2015 and has since represented the Netherlands in three editions of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
He plays his domestic cricket for KNCB Cricket in the Netherlands. His Instagram bio identifies him as “New Zealand born, Holland bred”, with a verified handle @maxodowd.
Heritage notes
The O’Dowd surname is one of the most direct anglicisations of the Tireragh Ó Dubhda root. Like the actor Chris O’Dowd or the journalist Niall O’Dowd, Max carries the unhyphenated form. As a New-Zealand-born athlete competing for the Netherlands, he represents the third-generation reach of the Irish-O’Dowd diaspora in two cricket-playing nations far from the Tireragh coast.
Heritage notes
Family root: O'Dowd line, Irish descent (specific Irish county-of-origin not yet documented).
The directory threads Max O’Dowd back to the O'Dubhda clan story via the surname-variants reality — the same family carried these spellings as it scattered. See the septs and the diaspora for the wider pattern, or the Clan DNA Project for the genetic connections being mapped now.
