The O’Dubhda Mission
Uniting a clan across generations — and across the globe
The mission of the O’Dubhda Clan is simple: to unite O’Dubhda family members and their descendants around the world, fostering connections across generations long scattered across the globe. We work to strengthen our shared heritage, rediscover our history, and build a vibrant network of O’Dubhdas and those connected to the name.
I. Our Purpose
The O’Dubhda Clan is a registered society, governed by a written constitution. Its principal purpose is educational: to advance understanding of our shared heritage and to help descendants trace their place within it.
“The principal object of the body is to advance education by promoting cultural and historical research through assisting persons to trace their family histories in Ireland.”
— O’Dubhda Clan Constitution
Everything the Clan does — gatherings, publications, tours, the website you are reading — flows from that single educational purpose.
II. Our Objectives
The Constitution sets out five specific objectives. The Clan exists:
a) To promote Celtic traditions.
b) To encourage family history research.
c) To promote understanding of the O’Dubhda Clan and the history of all Irish clans generally.
d) To unite all persons of O’Dubhda descent worldwide, including every variant of the name.
e) To aid in the discovery, development, and maintenance of historical properties connected to the Clan.
III. What We Do
Connecting the O’Dubhda family worldwide. We bring O’Dubhda members and descendants into contact with one another, helping them learn about each other as individuals and discover the commonalities of DNA, family history, and inherited tradition that tie them together.
Promoting our heritage and homelands. We celebrate and promote the lands historically associated with the O’Dubhdas — Tireragh, Erris, and the wider territory of Uí Fhiachrach Muaidhe — encouraging members to visit their ancestral places and strengthen their ties to them.
Supporting O’Dubhda businesses and initiatives. We champion O’Dubhda-owned and O’Dubhda-related enterprises that carry the family name forward. Whether you are an entrepreneur, an artist, or a historian, we encourage collaboration within our global community.
Historical research and preservation. We research and document the history of the O’Dubhda Clan — its achievements, struggles, and legacy — and work to restore visibility to our name through publications, field research, and the care of heritage sites.
Raising awareness and celebrating our name. Through events, storytelling, genealogy projects, and digital archives, we keep the O’Dubhda heritage alive for future generations.
IV. Join Us
If you are an O’Dubhda, have O’Dubhda ancestry, or simply wish to support our mission, we welcome you to be part of this journey. Whether through research, connecting with fellow O’Dubhdas, or supporting our initiatives, there is a place for you in the Clan.
Together, we will strengthen our legacy and honour the generations who came before us.
