Act V — Return and Revival

Act V · A History of the O'Dubhda

Return and Revival

1850 — today
Dispersed but not broken. Over six generations, descendants find their way home.

From the death of John O'Donovan in 1861 through the Easter Rising, the founding of the Free State, and the long slow gathering of the modern clan — nine Taoisigh, seven rallies, and in October 2025 the first inauguration at Carn Amhalghaidh since 1595. The story did not end at the Famine; it waited.

Inauguration at Carn Amhalghaidh

For the first time since 1595, the Taoiseach is raised on the old mound. Sean O'Dowda Stephens is inaugurated at Carn Amhalghaidh — the same cairn where Ruaidhrí Ó Dubhda stood in 1380 and Tadhg Buidhe in 1595. A rowan sapling is planted beside the cairn, echoing the Rowan of Dubhros and the 1990 tree at Enniscrone. Four hundred and thirty years of waiting have ended.
